Welcome to the Bio-Dome!

Gaylord Ben’s Biz Blog is proud to be coming your way live and direct from the Baseball Winter Meetings! This fine event is being held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, which is an awe-inspiring (and, frankly, a bit terrifying) monument to mankind’s desire to congregate in freakishly huge hermetically-sealed entertainment complexes.

Very few of the Meetings’ attendees, myself included, will venture outside until leaving here on Thursday. It’s just the way it is.

While most Winter Meetings media coverage will focus solely on the Major League side of the baseball equation, you can consider this fine blog your source for info on the Minors. I could care less about what trade rumors are emanating from the remotest nooks and crannies of this monstrous edifice, or who’s talking to whom at the Jack Daniels bar. I’m here to learn about the business of baseball from the Minor Leagues’ finest minds. Get out of my way, Johan Santana! I’ve got to go attend a marketing seminar conducted by the Media Relations Director of a Class A ballclub.

I would be lying, however, if I said that I wasn’t star-struck when Pete Incaviglia Petei walked by me in the lobby. But I digress…

Stay tuned throughout the week for periodic dispatches from Nashville, and, eventually, my Winter Meetings Journal. But now, I must go down to the opening reception of the Trade Show for cocktails and "hors d’oeuvres" (whatever they are).

What is Inky up to these days?

is that a boat???

Sadly, I do not know what the ink-man is up to these days. Now that I am over the shock of seeing him in the flesh, I will make it my mission to ask him.

Yes, that is a boat. It costs, like, $9 to go for a ride in the canal, though. Not worth it.

Still waiting on those periodic updates… I’m dying to know how those “hors d’oeuvres” things were…
