Bowling Green Sets 'Em Up, Knocks 'Em Down

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for BGHRlogo.JPGLess than one hour ago, I received an email which posited the following:

"How many world record attempts have started with a baseball mascot? Especially a bear! Axle the Bear!"

This whimsically-worded missive was sent by Atlee McHeffey, production manager for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Axle the Bear is the team's mascot, and the world record attempt that he started was this:

Yes, Axle and company were engaging in Mattress Dominos, that most American of bedding-related pastimes. The attempt took place on October 24th in the parking lot of Trent Bedding Company, a Hot Rods sponsor, and featured 150 participants (the previous record appears to have been 126).

As I have noted on a number occasions (most prominently HERE), the folks at Guinness are very stingy when it comes to verifying records. But it's going to be tough to argue with the validity of this one, and it is my sincere hope that Axle, the Trent Bedding Company, and Bowling Green's legion of willing human mattresses are soon granted with the record book immortality that they so richly deserve.

America loves Axel bear! I think I see Atlee McHeffey! Go Hot Rods!

They got pretty risky with the turnaround at about 0:40. Congrats on your world record, Bowling Green!
