Living in South Bend, I was really happy to see the renovation to the Cove but once I heard that they spent money to turn the visiting team area in all princess and pink I feel like its offensive to incoming teams. If they did it just be different and have some fun then why didn't they decorate the home teams room that same way? I think it shows no respect to opposing teams and associates them with playing "like girls". Is that really the picture we want to paint to visitors? I don't think its funny and feel upset the money was put to use like that.

Ben, Ben, Ben. You should have talked with me before you actually used the word "karst." You're right about Mammoth Cave having something to do with karst topography, but let me tell the story. Large areas of Kentucky are underlain by limestone. Although it happens very slowly, limestone tends to be dissolved by water, and over hundreds of thousands of years, underground water flowing through the limestone dissolves it. When the water table lowers (which happens as rivers deepen their valleys), caves are the result.

Inevitably, some of these caves end up being near the surface, and the overlying ground collapses into the cave, causing sinkholes. Sinkholes have been in the news of late - remember the guy in Florida who was killed when his bedroom fell into a sinkhole? Anyway, "karst topography" is the name of the landscape that forms in an area with extensive caves and sinkholes (especially sinkholes).

About the lack of subsurface structures at the stadium. Before it was built, the engineers probably did a survey that showed that the limestone beneath the stadium could hold up surface structures, but they concluded that none of the soil or rock beneath the stadium should be removed to put anything in below ground. This could cause weakness that could have resulted in a damaging collapse.

There you have it. By the way, Ben comes by his blogging skills honestly. If you like the geographic aspects of Ben's road trip posts, you might want to check out my blog. Just Google "A Landing A Day."

The "anchor"-"savior" of osprey pitching last year who was a huge part in many people's eyes in getting them to the championship game was shafted during spring training this year. He was placed in extended spring training with no "feedback" with his performance, just a "we like you". The C.T. man can be productive, more productive then the pitchers I have been watching. I am not real sure how this system works, but I certainly have lost respect for what is happening within this game (big prospects suspended for doping, etc.., but this kid with a heart, mind, and a hard throwing right arm, who loves the game and has morals, values, and ethics, is now devastated in how this system works. Why he did not move up to full season, It's Unbelievable who ever makes these decisions! So now he has "voluntarily retired" from the D-Backs and left to pursue other opportunities and wait things out (2018). My understanding they will not release him until his contract is up in 2018, and if he wishes to return he has to call the D-Backs. Let him out of his contract and allow him to pursue the team that will recognize this kids heart, mind, and a hard throwing right arm that will only get better when given the opportunity to excel in the game he loves. Yes, this kid is my 2nd son, and I am totally disappointed to watch what happens to these young men in one of the greatest games that has begun to sour...
